De Nihil Natura was published in 1771 by the Italian mathematician Lodovico Verro. On the day of publication, the book was immediately banned by Pope Clement XIV and copies were hunted down, seized and destroyed. Only a single copy of the first chapter, torn from of the book as it was thrown into a bonfire, survived. The excerpt was translated into English and printed as a pamphlet, a copy of which was recently discovered inside a book, Atlas of the Known Universe, in the library of the philosopher, George Berkeley.
